But what is GONGTANG?
Peanuts are one of the main ingredients for making GONGTANG. Because of the dry soil and weather in Kinmen, peanuts here are usually small but sturdy, and thus the residents developed the crispy and delicious peanut candy.
According to some legends, there are two stories about the origin of GONGTANG; during the Ming Dynasty, this peanut candy was the tribute to the great emperor; the other is the sound of the making GONGTANG.
As time goes by, the peanut candies are more and more popular and even developed into other flavors such as bamboo leaf candy, garlic candy, pig's foot candy, and so on.
And today, I am gonna to introduce a well known GONGTANG from local Kinmen to you guys!

First founded in 1911, Chen Jin Fu Hao has won numerous prizes such as the Top 100 Taiwanese Souvenir Award, the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs of peanut candy, and the Taiwan GONGTANG Tourism Factory. In addition to the handmade traditional peanut candy, it also dedicated to keeping the battlefield culture of Kinmen, combining the local customs, and developing a variety of cultural creative products.
Having developed GONGTANG industry for hundred years, the founder insisted in purely hand-made, fresh ingredients and made the products without any extra preservatives to let the brand continue growing.
Look at the package, there are separately packed in small bags, which are easy to carry, and you don’t have to worry about the storage if you can’t finish eating one time.
Although they are all called GONG-TANG, the taste and the texture are totally different. The pig's feet GONG-TANG is covered with white sesame; the taste is a bit sticky. Made with maltose and brown sugar for 8 hours and put the classic peanut candy in the middle made the candy more special than other flavors.
